University of South Dakota is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Ceramics for a 9-month per year appointment beginning in August 2025. This position involves teaching ceramics at both undergraduate and graduate levels within a dynamic, nationally recognized and accredited BFA/MFA Art program. The candidate will engage in research, teaching, and service activities according to the guidelines of the South Dakota Board of Regents (SDBOR).  Salary $48,000-$53,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus benefits.

The School of Art + Art History in the College of the Arts seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor of Studio Art with expertise in ceramics in the expanded field to join our forward-looking interdisciplinary program at a top-ranked public university. The ideal candidate has an active studio practice that engages the complex materiality and history of clay and craft, as well as emerging ceramic technologies and methods. Their creative practice is informed by contemporary art theories and practice.

We seek an innovative artist-educator to lead the development of ceramics in the expanded field curricula with strong collaborative, communication, and leadership skills who has experience and knowledge in wheel-based ceramic techniques, hand building/sculpture/figurative techniques, ceramic glazing and surface finishing techniques and firing theory and methodology.

Responsibilities: 
Teach a 2/2 course load at the undergraduate and graduate levels in ceramics in the expanded field in an interdisciplinary studio art curriculum. Course assignments may also include studio art foundations and/or courses in the University’s general education curriculum. Mentor and advise graduate students and supervise graduate committees. Conduct creative research appropriate to the discipline. Collaborate with staff in shared supervision of the ceramics facilities. Actively participate in shared governance and our learning community.

The School of Art + Art History in the College of the Arts seeks an Assistant Professor in 3D + Extended Media to join our forward-looking interdisciplinary program at a top-ranked public university. The ideal candidate has an active creative practice and innovative pedagogy informed by contemporary art theory and practice. We seek an artist-educator with strong collaborative, communication and leadership skills. We especially welcome applicants with demonstrated skill with metalwork. 

Approximately half the teaching load will be dedicated to WARP (Workshop in Art Research and Practice), a team-taught intensive studio + lecture course at the forefront of our foundations curriculum. Taught in a dedicated off-campus facility, WARP is required of all studio art and graphic design majors and introduces students to the multi-dimensional and diverse world of art, art making, and contemporary theory through a dynamic curriculum that reflects faculty research.

Courses may eventually include a course in the university’s General Education curriculum. The Department of Art Practice at UC Berkeley is seeking a dynamic ceramic artist for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Ceramics. A qualified candidate will demonstrate the ability to lead UC Berkeley’s historic Ceramics Laboratory, which encompasses approximately 4000 square feet with a 1600 square foot exterior courtyard, develop a strong pedagogical focus as it relates to the discipline, teach undergraduate and graduate students in studio and theory courses from foundational to advanced levels, advance their own research and studio practice, oversee the resources and physical infrastructures of the facilities, and make critical contributions to the larger field of contemporary ceramic sculpture.

The position requires in-depth material knowledge of clay and ceramic processes, robust engagement with concepts and theory, and investment in the discipline’s location within fine art. The successful candidate will have a substantial exhibition practice and a compelling track record of creative research and experimentation with ceramics at its center. They will possess a strong working knowledge of diverse and global ceramic histories, an ability to engage with contemporary theory and current debates on art, and the technical skills necessary for running a studio alongside a full-time staff member.

We seek a colleague with expertise in three-dimensional art practices in one or more related materials (e.g., ceramics, sculpture, fibers) and who is dedicated to excellence in teaching and advising undergraduate students

Requirements:

An MFA (or related degree) in sculpture, ceramics, fiber arts, or three-dimensional practice. A demonstration of teaching effectiveness and continued creative productivity.

Preference will be given to individuals who can connect studio arts to contemporary social issues. Experience with emerging technologies such as 3-D fabrication is required.  Experience with teaching or working with a broad range of ways of making is preferred but not required.
