Position Summary

The Social Media Curator will support NCECA’s mission to promote and advance the ceramic arts through thoughtful and engaging social media content. Working closely with NCECA staff, artists, and community partners, the Curator will source, organize, and share meaningful digital content that connects the ceramics community, highlights member contributions, and broadens the reach of NCECA’s programs, exhibitions, and annual conference.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about digital storytelling who can authentically represent NCECA’s values of inclusion, education, and creative artistic excellence online. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and driven by measuring impact in the digital realm, using tracking tools and analytics to inform strategy and support NCECA’s mission-driven and fundraising initiatives. NCECA maintains a strong and growing presence on social networks, with 70,000 followers on Instagram and an annual reach of 1.5 million. We strive to refine messaging and target specific demographics across platforms, with a particular focus on Facebook and a forthcoming networking community on the Higher Logic platform.

Responsibilities

Content Sourcing & Community Highlights

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with NCECA’s mission, strategic plan, and integrated marketing communications goals.

  • Curate and share engaging, mission-aligned content that reflects the diversity of the ceramics field, including artist features, process videos, exhibitions, educational resources, and member highlights.

  • Source high-quality visual and written content from NCECA members, partners, and the broader ceramics community; monitor user-generated content for potential resharing with proper credit and permissions.

  • Collaborate with board and staff to implement strategic social media plans, stay informed on key trends, and ensure consistent branding and messaging across platforms.

  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive digital environment that extends beyond in-person events and supports fundraising, community storytelling, and member engagement through initiatives like Instagram Live and other digital programs.

Content Creation and Engagement

  • Design and produce visual content, videos, and captions for NCECA’s communication platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, BlueSky, YouTube, and emerging media such as podcast-related content. A high volume of graphics is produced throughout the year.

  • Develop engaging captions that reflect NCECA’s tone—inclusive, educational, and artist-centered—while maintaining a cohesive visual identity across platforms.

  • Collaborate with staff, board members, and departmental colleagues to create and share relevant, timely content highlighting ceramic art, education, and NCECA programming.

  • Support strategic initiatives and campaigns—including Calls for Entry, Conference Registration, Exhibitions, and Fellowship Announcements—through coordinated social media efforts.

  • Maintain and regularly update a social media calendar to ensure strategic timing and content diversity, reviewed weekly in one-on-one meetings with the Managing Director of Marketing and Communications.

Social Networking Platform Management

  • Publish curated content regularly on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and BlueSky.

  • Respond to comments and DMs professionally and warmly, helping build an inclusive and responsive online presence.

  • Engage with posts from artists, educators, and organizations aligned with NCECA’s mission.

  • Expanding NCECA’s digital presence beyond social media by supporting the development and management of an NCECA-run community networking platform (e.g., Higher Logic Community).

  • Support audience development and foster engagement within the community networking platform and social media communities. Monitor the above platforms for participant alignment with NCECA Community Guidelines, issue warnings as needed, report concerns to the Managing Director of Marketing and Communications, and the Executive Director.

Data Tracking, Analysis, and Performance Tracking

  • Continuously track, measure, and analyze performance data, providing monthly and annual post-conference reports that highlight key findings and actionable strategies to improve engagement, traffic, followers, and comment-driven interactions.

  • Create and manage metric spreadsheets to monitor NCECA’s quarterly growth across social media channels.

  • Collaborate with the Managing Director of Marketing and Communications to establish annual benchmarks as part of the goal-setting process for membership growth.

  • Monitor analytics and performance data for curated posts.

  • Provide monthly or quarterly insights to help evolve NCECA’s digital engagement strategy and present to the Managing Director of Marketing and Communications.
