The NCECA Annual Exhibition, Absence Takes Form, will run concurrently with Volumes, the 60th annual conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, Detroit, Michigan, March 25-28, 2026. The NCECA Annual blends impactful attributes of invitational and open juried models of exhibition development. Exhibition curator Adrienne Spinozzi organizing concept is brought to life through the work of invited artists. The curator will select additional works and artists for the exhibition through an open call for submissions.

NCECA’s Featured Exhibitions (formerly “Concurrent Exhibitions”) program makes ceramic art visible and accessible throughout the communities that host NCECA’s annual conference. Artists and curators from throughout the US and abroad may submit proposals for a Featured Exhibition.

A peer review process involving NCECA’s exhibitions director and members of the conference region’s arts and culture community selects proposals after careful consideration. The featured exhibitions series provides a platform for diverse artists to engage with regional, national, and international audiences.

2026 CLAY AROUND TOWN EXHIBITION

The Clay Around Town (formerly Venue Originated Exhibitions) call for submissions is intended for exhibitions initiated by venues in the Detroit region and artist- or curator-led projects already associated with a venue in the NCECA conference host community.

The 2026 Clay Around Town exhibitions will run concurrently with Volumes, the 60th annual conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, Detroit, Michigan, March 25-28, 2026.

2024 NCECA Coalescence Conference, Gallery Expo Reception

2026 NCECA GALLERY EXPO - SUBMIT AN APPLICATION!

2026 NCECA Gallery Expo features displays of unique works in clay presented by galleries from across the United States and abroad. Works in this showcase may be functional, decorative, or sculptural and should be available for purchase by collectors.

A committee will select the galleries to participate based on the quality of submissions and alignment with programmatic goals and objectives.

NCECA is committed to inclusion, equity, accessibility, and diversity in the ceramic arts. Applicants to the Gallery Expo are strongly encouraged to submit a diverse list of artists reflecting historically marginalized communities, artists from multiple experiences, backgrounds, voices, and identities, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexuality, disability, class, and age.
