TOPICS FOR LECTURES, CO-LECTURES & PANEL PROPOSALS
THEME: Future Flux

For the 51th annual meeting of NCECA in Portland, we call for proposals of lectures and panel discussions relating to issues of Future Flux, as well as issues specific to this region and location. As always, we also welcome proposals on all subjects relevant to our field. Submissions will be evaluated in regard to merit, the presenter’s expertise in the area, and a general interest in providing a balanced and inclusive program for the members.
NCECA reviews and selects programming from proposals submitted from the field as an important component of conference planning. Additionally, NCECA reserves the right to curate and develop programming that strengthens the quality and range of experiences related to the conference theme, sense of place, and other strategic objectives.
The general categories for proposals are as follows:
- Aesthetics, Criticism, Theory and Practice, including presentations about concepts of beauty and value, art attitudes, art in society, content and interpretation, analysis and evaluation.
- Art History, including presentations about traditional and non-traditional artists and movements, styles, surveys of regional, national and international art in clay.
- Education, presentations about traditional and non-traditional curricula, goals, standards, methods and pedagogy including but not limited to those that advance knowledge and awareness of environmental concerns.
- Professional Practices, including presentations about working standards, goals, methods, and attitudes or, the professional working relationships of guilds, co-ops and other ceramic centers.
- Technology and Sustainability, presentations about traditional and non-traditional materials, processes, kilns, equipment, including but not limited to those that mitigate adverse environmental impact through innovations in sustainable systems and practices.
Please read the information below carefully to prepare for your Submittal.
Lectures of 30 minutes and 60 minutes (ideal for presenting specific information and ideas), panels of 90 minutes (suitable for investigating topics that are best informed by varied perspectives) will be programmed. This timeframe includes a question and answer period.
For all presenters/panelist/moderators (We must have the following from everyone participating and/or proposing a panel or lecture):
• Names
• Address
• Phone number (cell preferred)
• Email address (preferred method of contact)
• Resume (2 page limit, upload as .doc, .docx or .pdf, not to exceed 2MB)
• Short Bio (Up to 300 characters)
• Head shot (upload as jpg, 100dpi 2”x3”)
90-Minute Panelist/Moderators (Panels are limited to no more than three panelists plus a moderator)
• Panel title – Up to 30 characters including spaces.
• Proposal abstract for juror selection – Up to 1800 character including spaces
• Resume (2 page limit, upload as .doc, .docx or .pdf, not to exceed 2MB)
• Program guide description – Up to 300 characters including spaces (If your proposal is accepted, this will be printed in the Program Guide)
• Images representative of the presentation’s focus (up to 10 images total). If your presentation/panel is not something that can be documented with imagery, please disregard this requirement. Lastly, please only include images that will strengthen the proposal (Only images that directly reference the actual proposal)

• Image Title
• Relevance to presentation – Up to 300 characters
• Brief Image description – Up to 300 characters – to include Artist name, type of clay, firing, date of piece, dimensions (H x W x D)
30 and 60-Minute Presentations and 30 and 60-Minute Co-Presentations (Co-lectures – two individuals presenting different aspects of the same topic)
• Lecture title – Up to 30 characters including spaces.
• Proposal abstract for juror selection – Up to 1800 character including spaces

(NCECA reserves the right to assign individuals to introduce presentations when this field is left blank or the recommended person is unavailable.) Please provide his/her Name, Cell phone, Email

If chosen to present, your commitment to NCECA will be:
• Meeting all deadlines as outlined by your signed agreement, which include the following:
• Written and visual documentation to publish in the NCECA Journal and other promotions.
• A PowerPoint presentation (If images are not appropriate, please make note of it in your proposal)
