Current, the theme of NCECA’s 2023 conference in Cincinnati, Ohio, is an invitation to think about the present moment and the rich and varied paths, opportunities, and challenges we have navigated. Working with clay engages us in worlds of continuity and continual change. The river and its current are essential and enduring features of Cincinnati’s history and evolution. Current moves us to ponder the history of human creation. Current transports artifacts, stories, and ideas through time. It shapes who we are today and the world we work to create. Ceramic art embodies currents that carry diverse traditions of invention and renewal.
