NCECA Honoraries

Nomination Procedures
NCECA formally recognizes the outstanding achievements of artists and educators with the following awards:

HONORARY MEMBERS

Honorary members are individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the professional development of the ceramic arts in accordance with criteria established by the Board of Directors. Nominations for Honorary Membership shall be presented to the Board of Directors by the Committee on Nominations no later than six months prior to the annual meeting at which the award is to be presented. Election to Honorary Membership shall result from a three-fourths majority vote of the Board of Directors entire. This honor carries with it all rights and privileges to the Council for life and obviates all future payments of dues and fees. Up to two Honorary Members may be elected in any one year.

FELLOWS OF THE COUNCIL

Fellows are individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts. NCECA was founded and developed by these forward-thinking ceramic artists. In the 1970s the conference grew from a get-together to a small gathering of a few hundred potters. In the 1980s it graduated to over 1000, and today we have over 4000 ceramic artists who attend the annual NCECA conference. They shall be members in good standing and shall have served the Council in significant ways for at least five years. No more than two Fellows shall be elected in any one year. No Board Member is eligible for election to Fellow while serving on the Board. Up to two Fellows may be elected in any one year.

EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD

Recipients of the Excellence in Teaching Award are individuals who are near or at the end of a career dedicated to the practice of teaching (may be awarded posthumously); have demonstrated excellence in their own creative work; have previous recognition for and a history of awards in teaching; and have highly visible former students in the field. Up to two Excellence in Teaching Awards may be elected in any one year.

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Recipients of the Outstanding Achievement Award are individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the ceramic arts with their work on a singular endeavor. This award is open to contemporary artists, educators, writers, and others, this award recognizes individuals who have successfully completed a singular project that has contributed to the field of ceramic arts in an extraordinary way. The scope of the venture should be above and beyond what would typically be considered his/her professional responsibilities. This honor carries with it a one-year membership and conference pass. Only one Outstanding Achievement Awards may be elected in any one year.

REGIONAL AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

Recipients of the Regional Awards for Excellence Award are individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the ceramic arts within their community or region.

NOMINATION PROCEDURES

2010 Awards Nominations
The deadline for nominations of NCECA Fellows, Honors, Excellence in Teaching and Outstanding Achievement Awards will be September 15th, 2009. Award nominees are presented to the Board by the Nominations committee, chaired by Past President, Robert Harrison at the annual Fall Board meeting from nominations made by the membership and Board members.  The Nominator must be a current member of NCECA to put forth a nomination.
