NCECA 50th Anniversary Member Feedback
NCECA’s 50th presents a unique opportunity to investigate the present, reflect on the past and anticipate the future of ceramic art. This golden anniversary offers a moment in time to reflect on enduring accomplishments, investigate the meaning of the present, and imagine the challenges and possibilities of the future of ceramic art and education. Our goal is to identify a location that maximizes our organizational assets and rallies current and potential membership to participate in and contribute to a conference and surrounding events, programs and exhibitions that explore and expose creative and educational practice, research, innovation and achievement in ceramics. Your ideas may help expand our thinking about the important decision of selecting a conference site as NCECA celebrates its past and looks forward to a future of inspiration and discovery. As you participate in this conversation on the location for the conference for our 50th anniversary in 2016 please take into account our Strategic Planning goals and conference requirements listed below and thank you for your insights!
Strategic Planning Goals:
GOAL #1 An ever increasing awareness of the ceramic arts in society
Benchmark: Increased exposure for ceramic artists and their work in publications, exhibitions and other highly visible venues
GOAL#2 Ever increasing value creation for NCECA members through essential, high quality and unique programs and services
Benchmark Increased member satisfaction as measured through longitudinal Surveys
GOAL#3 Robust structures and systems that respond to opportunities and adapt to changing conditions
Benchmark: A progressively more effective enterprise, as measured by fiscal health and organizational effectiveness
1) City must be easily accessible for both national and international attendees.
2) Availability of art exhibition venues is essential. Besides the two exhibitions NCECA sponsors, a great number of members submit proposals to mount exhibitions of their own. It is not unusual for 80-100 ceramic art exhibitions to run concurrently with the conference.
3) Non-commercial gallery, museum, art center, or university gallery with at least 3,500 sq. ft of gallery space and a staff able to accommodate receiving and installing over 30-50 pieces of ceramic artwork for the Invitational.
4) Non-commercial gallery, preferably a university gallery or community college with at least 2,500 sq. ft. of gallery space with a gallery director to stage the NSJE exhibition.
5) An average of 1,100 hotel sleeping rooms on peak (Thursday) offering affordable rates and close proximity to the convention center.
6) Convention Center with:
a. A minimum of 45,000 sq. ft. to accommodate the exhibit hall
b. A minimum of 16,000 sq. ft. to accommodate demonstrators
c. A minimum of 9,000 sq. ft. to accommodate the EXPO
d. A minimum of 30,000 sq. ft. to accommodate general session that can be divisible by three to accommodate concurrents
e. A minimum of 12 additional meeting rooms varying in size from 1,500 sq. ft – 4,000 sq. ft.
7) A strong group of members willing to dedicate many hours and support to have the conference in their city.
