Experience Seattle… Counting down the Days

This mid-March e-communique brings a few important items to your attention before we close up the NCECA office on Friday, March 23 and head for Seattle. It's been exciting to see Registration and Membership numbers climb as we get close to Conference. Thanks to everyone who has been working so hard to make 2012 a memorable year for NCECA.

Before my presidency ends and my service as Past-President begins, I'd like to offer a few thoughts as we head into the conference. You may have noticed a variety of changes, (we think improvements), have occurred in the last two years. You are now receiving the journal in real time at the conference. The Board is now contributing both with time and monetarily to the organization, and the list goes on.

We pride ourselves on being a member driven organization. Your votes count at our elections and change happens because of your wise choices. For the first time in our history you will be voting on your president according to our new bylaws. We also have other board members in our election including our second Student Director at Large. Please notice the change of times for the First Members' Meeting which will now happen on Thursday morning. Make it a point to attend to learn about the nominees. Please stop by the NCECA booth to meet our candidates when they are present and be present on Saturday all morning for the elections and other programming.

We are strongest and we feel your support when you are involved.

Your grateful President, Keith J. Williams

2012 NCECA Cup Sale – Making a Difference, One Cup at a Time!

Every year the NCECA community demonstrates its remarkable generosity through the annual NCECA Cup Sale – and Seattle 2012 will be no exception!
It's a very simple process. Conference participants bring a cup, or several cups, of their own making as a donation to the Cup Sale. Donations will be received in Rooms 615-617 of the Washington State Convention Center from 9am-5pm, Wednesday and Thursday, March 28 and 29th. Donated cups are immediately displayed for all to see. On Friday morning, March 30, the exhibit becomes a sale, and all funds raised go directly to support various NCECA scholarship programs!

Cups are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, limit three per person. Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted. At the 2011 NCECA Cup Sale in Tampa, over 650 cups were donated and sold, raising $15,188 in scholarship funds. Will Seattle 2012 continue this great tradition of generosity? Please, do what you can to make this year the best ever, all for the educational benefit and advancement of your fellow clay artists!

You can find information about the 2012 NCECA Cup Sale (our 20th annual!), the scholarship programs it benefits, and photos of the last three years of the "Cups of Merit" winners at

Not coming to the conference? You can still donate! For those not attending the conference, you may ship your cup properly packed, to arrive by Wednesday, March 21, 2012, addressed to:

Wally Bivins (NCECA Cup Sale)
Pottery Northwest
226 1st Avenue N.
Seattle, WA 98109

Please indicate a suggested selling price and include your business card in the cup(s). NCECA and Pottery Northwest are not responsible for any damaged, broken or lost items.

NCECA's Board of Directors made some important scheduling decisions to increase participation in the first and second Members Business Meetings at the 2012 Conference. The First Members Business Meeting takes place in Ballroom 6A of the Washington State Convention Center at 8:30-9am, Thursday, March 29. Complementary coffee will be served. During this meeting NCECA leaders will provide brief reports and announcements after which nominations may come from the floor for Director at Large and Student Director at Large board positions. Members may also offer comments, feedback and proposals for future board consideration. At the conclusion of the meeting will be a drawing for a $100 gift certificate for purchases with Resource Hall businesses, but you must be present to win.

The Second Members Business Meeting will be called to order at 8:55am on Saturday, March 31 in Ballrooms 6A-C of the Washington State Convention Center. At about 9:45am, following the first three of six 2012 NCECA Emerging Artists presentations, candidates for President Elect, Paul Andrew Wandless and Deborah Bedwell will make brief presentations and the ballot for NCECA's future board leader will take place. Presentations by candidates for Director at Large and Student Director at Large will take place following the final three Emerging Artists talks, and the closing lecture by Sandy Simon and Robert Brady. After this elections will take place for the remaining open board positions. These scheduling changes were made in the hope that because the Emerging Artists presentations have been historically well-attended, the number of members able to participate in decisions about NCECA's future will increase.
